Vana - Zimbabwe Team - Jane Goredema's testimony
I was born in a family of six where I am the first. The year I turned thirteen years old my father was run over by a bus and he died. My mother who was not employed anywhere developed asthma and it was so severe that her relatives took her to their home. I had to look after the children except three who were still very young and they went with mum.
In that same year my cousin who was staying in the capital city came to visit us in the rural area where we lived. I told him how life was difficult for me, looking after children while I was also a child, at school I was bright but most times I would be sent back home because I would have not paid fees. My cousin organized that I would go and stay with my uncle while my two young brothers would go with him, before he left he preached to me and I received Christ as my personal Saviour. He also told me that God cares much for orphans and widows and that God would take care of me.
Always when I prayed I would say “God of orphans and widows please take care of us as a family”. I stayed with my uncle and still things were difficult there. I would take my mother’s children to a place where I preached to them and prayed to the God of orphans and widows. My mother’s sister who stayed in Harare came to ask for me from my uncle who did not refuse me going with her.
In Harare I started going to church, in the rural area there was no church. One day our church bishop called me to his office and told me that there was a young pastor who wanted to marry me. I refused because I thought no one would marry me while I had children to look after. My intention was to get employed and look after the children but God had different ideas. I met and married Makoni and that is how I became a pastor’s wife. We were married in 1991 and we have a son and two daughters.
